Burg Maus (Maus Castle) towers above Wellmich, a district of St. Goarshausen. Maus Castle was founded in 1356 by Archbishop Bohemund II of Trier and was originally intended to compete with the upriver Katz Castle belonging to the Counts of Katzenelnbogen.
