In Sigiriya - Hotel: Sigiriya **** With stunning view of Sigiriya Rock. Good location and excellent pool and restaurant. Rooms are spacious enough but the decoration a little update.
In Polannaruwa - Restaurant: Priyamali gedara *** Located at the edge of a rice field this relaxing place offers different types of vegetable curries, bread and traditional food.
In Kandy - Hotel: Suisse **** Famous old hotel which served as Mountbatten's Southeast Asian headquarters during World War II. It's becoming a little shabby but the rooms are very spacious and comfortable, whith colonial decor. The attractive public areas include a bar, a billard room and a pool. Excelent location on the lakeside.
In Nuwara Eliya - Hotel: Jetwing St Andrew's ***** This Georgian manor was once a planters' club. Today is the most luxurious, carefully renovated, of the colonial-style hotels. The rooms are a mixed of old and new style. There is a naturalist who leads excellent guided walks in and around the hotel grounds in search of birds. Perfect breakfast with a great choice of cold and warm Sri Lankan & International meals & dishes and also fresh juices.
In Yala National Park - Hotel: Chaarya Resort & Spa by Chandrika **** Modern hotel with confortable rooms set around a palm-lined courtyard and a good pool. Attentive staff and good restaurant.
In Mirissa - Hotel: Paradise Beach Club *** Completely restored after a long lay-off following the tsunami, this hotel has accommodation in simple concrete cabanas scattered around attractive gardens by the beach, or a newer and more confortable two-storey block behind. The swimming pool was allways boiling hot. The breakfast and dinner buffet was very poor.
Restaurant: Bay Moon *** Good place in Mirissa beach with excellent views and really fresh fish.
In Galle - Restaurant: Rampart *** Popular with tour buses, the restaurant offers a large menu and buffet with spectacular rampart and ocean views.
