Ramoche Temple

Ramoche Temple was built in the 7th century by Songsten Gampo to house the statue of Jowo Sakyamuni (Tibet's most venerated Buddha image), brought by his Chinese wife Wencheng. According to the legend, the threat of Chinese invasion after the king's death compelled his family to hide the statue inside the Jokhang.
