At the bottom of the Muslim cemetery of Murad Reis Mosque, stands Villa Cleobolus, where the writer Lawrence Durrell lived from 1945 to 1947, during the brief period of British administration. Here he wrote his "Venus and the Sea" and impressionistic a poetic novel about his impressions on the Island of Rhodes.
