Piazza San Domenico

Piazza San Domenico houses two canopied tombs holding the bones of medieval law scholars. Bologna was very important in the wrangles between the Pope and the Holy Roman Emperor in the 10th and 11th centuries, earning itself the title of "La Dotta" (The Learned) and forming the basis for the university's prominent law faculties.
