Cordes-Sur-Ciel, perched on a conical hill, is one of the region's must-see sights. Its name is a fitting description as the town seems suspended againts the skyline. During the 13th-century Cathar wars the entire town was excommunicated.
As one of the southwest's oldest and best-preserved bastides, complete with 13th and 14th-century houses climbing steep cobbled lanes, Cordes is invevitably a major tourist-atracction.
