Nikko was a renowned Buddhist-Shinto religous center, and the warlord Tokugawa Ieyasu chose it for the site of his mausoleum. Located 128 Km. north to Tokyo, most peolple come here to see the World Heritage-listed Tosho-gu shrine complex, which sits amid mountains crisscrossed by the oustanding hiking trails of Nikko National Park.
