Apartment: Maxim Apartment *** Apartments located above a bar-restaurant. Well located not far from the centre, which can be reached on foot in five or ten minutes. The lift is difficult to use as it does not stop at all floors.
The kitchenware is very scarce, so we could not have breakfast in the apartment as we would have liked. Adequate beds and cleanliness. |
Restaurant: Hans im Glück *** A nice burger chain restaurant in the heart of Mainz. You can get burgers in all kinds of variations. Whether vegan, vegetarian or with chicken, or beef, there is something for every palate with different side dishes.
The decoration with tree trunks is striking and provide a private feeling. Mediocre poor service. There are not english menu.
Restaurant: Mali & Milo **** Located in the Neubrunnenplatz just in front of our apartment in a pedestrian area. The terrace was very confortable. Everything is clean and bright. The food is delicious and made with very fresh products.
The breakfast selection is very complete and with very original offers. Excellent quality/price ratio.
Restaurant: Woods **** We found this cosy place while looking for a restaurant for a light snack. Great food, modern decor, cool and friendly waiters. The salmon and avocado bagel was delicious.
Restaurant: Wallenstein *** Café-bar located in the central Schillerplatz with a pleasant terrace. Friendly and attentive service.
Restaurant: Weinstube Hottum ***** One of the best wine taverns in the old town. Clearly a hidden local gem. Only has eight tables in a traditional atmosphere and a little menu with regional dishes but all was superb.
Also serves a dozen local wines by glass. Authentic German experience and excellent food. The Wiener schnitzel, the warm brownie and the Reisling were unfforgetable.

Restaurant: Friedrich's Wine & Dine **** This restaurant, just off the main street, is part of a greater complex with hotel, wineries and shop. The local wine served was of excellent quality and the food was fabulous. Offers

Apartment: Coblenz Suites **** The house is not very pretty from the outside, but the apartment is great. Completely renovated, excellent facilities. The apartment has brochures with information and places of interest in Koblenz.
Everything is close to what you need. Connection to the train and bus, shopping options. The city is not far away, you can reach it on foot. We felt very comfortable in the beautiful apartment.
Restaurant: Syrtaki **** Outstanding place! The restaurant is very nice and modern. The staff were very helpfull and the service where top level. We tasted the musaka, souvlakis and bifteki. Both portions were delicious and very large. Food and athmosphere were super.
Restaurant: Altes Brauhaus **** Typical German restaurant with the traditional German menu and you must not deviate from it... any other dish other than sausages, sauerkraut, knuckle, schnitzel... is not recommended. Menu also in English.
Abundant food and reasonable prices. The the place is nice like all brauhaus, but the service, honestly, could be greatly improved, little eye contact ergo little empathy, they would go on and on in German and just be cool, you would tell them you don't speak German and well,
they would apologize but they had zero emotional intelligence ergo they are left without a tip.

In Maria Laach - |
Restaurant: Monastery Restaurant *** The monastery restaurant offers up to 300 seats indoors and outdoors. In addition to the nice and relaxed atmosphere of the monastery, and the outdoor terrace area with a beautiful view of the monastery, the lunch was good.
The food was excellent, in our case bratwurst sausage with potatoes and appel strudel with coffee. |
In Bacharch - |
Restaurant: Zum Grünen Baum *** A nice spot in the middle of Bacharach. This wine bar has a great terrace and a nice, quaint flowery backyard. There are small dishes to go with the various wines. The classic tarte flambée and the potatoes salad are the best. |
In Bonn - |
Apartment: City Apartment am Rhein ** Close to the Märktplatz and the Bonn train station. Small elevator to access apartments. On a busy street but with the window closed the noise was minimal. The kitchen it was not a real kitchen but a little space in the corridor. It was very little and very bad equipped.
There is not microwave, nor dish towels. The toaster does not work properly. The bathroom was partly not so pretty: the toilet very unstable, the tiles broken. So, I think the apartment quite expensive for what it offers. |
Restaurant: Gasthaus im Stiefel *** Quaint pub. Typical Rhenish cuisine and a lot of tourists. Located near Beethoven house in the city centre.
Restaurant: Brauhaus Bönnsch *** We sat outdoors and enjoyed a great meal, refreshing beer and fun people watching. This is the best brauhaus of the city with walls adorned with photographs of
politicians from Willy Brandt to Arnold Schwarzenegger. Flammkuchen is very popular. And the apple struddle is a must. Lovely place to have a few beers or nice wine and enjoy German food.
Restaurant: Cafe Spitz **** Nice lunch in Bonn with ample outdoor seating. The menu resolves around salad, pizza and pasta with changing blackboard specials. The staff is extremely friendly and hospitable.
Excellent choice in the pedestrian are of Bonn.

In Aachen - |
Restaurant: Hanswurst *** Very close to the Aachen Cathedral, Hanswurst could pass for a German-style fast food. Sausages are their specialty and offer a variety of combinations and sauces. The service is very fast and attentive, when you enter you ask at the counter and in a few minutes
they notify you to pick up. In addition, the value for money (especially considering its location) is more than acceptable. |

Restaurant: Die Pfälzer *** It was a surprise to arrive at this restaurant and find that the owner is Spanish, from Alicante. She explained the dishes on the menu and we chose some of her recommendations. We tried a cold dish based on cold cuts, pâtés and gherkins and another dish of sausages with sauerkraut.
It was a nice day and we ate in a pleasant interior patio surrounded by plants and in a very quiet environment.

In Neustadt an der Weinstraße - |
Restaurant: Pizzeria Gianni *** Located in one of the most beautiful half-timbered houses of the Markplatz with a pleasant outdoor terrace in good weather. Good service, very good food but it was not possible to pay with credit card and we were not be informed in advance. This was a problem for us, as we hardly
could gather the amount to pay. I think that a restaurant of its category should clearly announce that you have to pay in cash. |
In Speyer - |
Hotel: Lowëngarten *** Hotel with spacious rooms and comfortable beds. The location to the city center is perfect - a few minutes walk to. They have parking, although you cannot reserve it and it is easy for it to be full. The breakfast is very expensive.
Restaurant: Zur Alten Münz **** This restaurant located in a central historic half-timbered house offers 75 seats on 2 floors and 75 seats in a pleasant outdoor seating area. A very nice restaurant with an interesting menu.
There is regional cuisine combined with Hungarian influences. The service was super fast and friendly. The food was a dream and really fair in terms of price. Highly recommended.
Cafe: Amalie *** Completely listless service. At first we were completely ignored outside; we must go inside to be attended.
Waiting time for a "scrambled eggs" is about 40 minutes - please don't hurry! In addition, they mistake the order and brougth an omelette. It's a shame, because the cooffe and the food is actually good.

In Frankfurt - |
Hotel: Turm **** Great little hotel situated 10 mins walk from the main centre of Frankfurt. Very clean and well-equipped. Very friendly staff. They offer free parking with the accommodation.
Restaurant: Der Fette Bulle *** Great Burgers. We went there for dinner. The outside tables were available so we chose to stay there. Fast service and super friendly staff.
Menus are available in English, which is a help because you need a little guidance on what each of the fancifully named hamburgers contains. The hamburgers are quite large and the side dishes are great too.
Cafe: Ana **** Very nice and fortunately a bit old-fashioned cafe. Very rich breakfasts options, the croissant is legendary at its finest, the "Wacker coffee" is excellent. I love the quiet atmosphere and the people from the neighborhood.
It is a cozy cafe with more seats (some in the garden) and with more delicious cakes and egg dishes, so you can brunch well here.
Restaurant: Kleinmarkhalle **** Traditional covered market with lots of fruit and meat stalls and some places offering simple dishes to eat on the spot. There is a stall with delicious sausages and german salads. A very economic option to eat.
