The Spitting Boy

You will see this same boy, called the 'Schaengel' (the 'spitting boy'), on every manhole cover in Koblenz. It is one of the symbols of the city.It is said that the spitting boy represents the city’s disdain for foreigners as Spitting John is the bastard son of an invading soldier.
