Saint Gertrudis of Nivelles is the patron saint of Bonn's old town and lived from 629 to 659. She was the great-great-great-aunt of Charlemagne and was brought up in a manner befitting her status. Nevertheless, she rejected all marriage plans and entered the convent founded by her mother in Nivelles, of which she became abbess.
