One of the seven hills of Rome, the Capitoline Hill was first the fortified centre of ancient Rome and later home to its most important temples. The broad stair leading up the hill was designed
by Michelangelo, as was the Piazza del Campidoglio at its head. There stands two majestic Renaissance palaces that houses the Capitoline Museums with the most famous collection of Classical
sculpture.
