Hoteles & Restaurantes in Bulgaria

In Sofia - Hotel: Ajax Hotel *** The hotel appropiated only for one night, not for visits Sofia. It has a nice garden for breakfast and spacious rooms well equipped. The third bed in the triple was inadmissible. Even for a child was unappropriate. It had irons bars under the thin mattress that made it impossible to sleep there. The room was very large so I do not understand why they are not able to put a normal bed for the third person.
Apartment: Vitosha Downtown Apartments ***** Superb apartments located in the very centre of Sofia. The apartment and utensils were very new. It had all the necessary appliances clean. Perfect furniture. Air conditioning and heating, so it will be well in both winter and summer. The contact person was very timely and efficient. The apartment is very spacious.
Restaurant: La Bodega *** La Bodega an Spanish-inspired restaurant offers international cuisine including Spanish tapas, meats and wines. As in many places abroad some dishes are anything but Spanish, quesadillas for example, and others are Spanish in a Bulgarian way, but in general the dishes were tasty and plentiful. It has several locations in Sofia. Where we were was a nice lovely terrace in summer. The waiters showed difficulty understanding our English and they have troubles with some dishes, so it is best thoroughly review the command.
Restaurant: Happy *** Happy Bar & Grill is a Bulgarian restaurant chain with several establishments in Sofia. They are similar to any american franchise with a long menu with international and local dishes. The waiters are helpful and bilingual. The place is cozy and decorated in western style. Reasonable prices and friendly atmosphere.
Restaurant: Manastirska Mangernitsa **** Nice restaurant housed in a beautifully building decorated with different atmospheres but always in traditional style. The terrace is very nice. Offers traditional food: according to the menu they have dishes from the kitchens of all monasteries in the country. We must dare and try, most are delicious. For dessert I recommend the orange cake, exquisite.
In Rila - Restaurant: Valdis Restaurant *** Close to Rila Monastery in a complex offering hotel and restaurant. It has outdoor seating on the banks of a small river. We took an informal meal of salads, and chicken and pork skewers. With dessert we had a problem, because we ordered three "fruit salads" and brought us three "greek salads". They did not have fruit so enjoyed magnificent Bulgarian yoghurt with jam. Very cheap. Five people just paid 20 ?.
Hotel: Pchelina Hotel *** Little hotel with a convinient location for visit Rila Monastery. Except the waiter, the rest of the staff was pretty grim. Some bathrooms have no separate shower nor curtains and everything is flooded after a shower. The restaurant located in the garden leads to a great dinner.
In Plovdiv - Hotel: Alafrangite Hotel & Restaurant **** The hotel is well located in the old town of Plovdiv. They have their own parking, which is very welcome as it is very dificult to park in this area. Junior Suite of good size and with good beds. Correct breakfast. It misses a lift. There are many stairs to climb with luggage. The restaurant in the adjacent building has a good terrace for summer nights with live music. They serve traditional bulgarian dishes.
Restaurant: Philippopolis Cafe & Restaurant **** restaurant is located in a beautifully preserved house with an art gallery. It offers a wonderful terrace with views and good shades for lunch or dinner on a hot day. Very quiet place. The food is elaborated and quality. Waiters very attentive and pleasant. We ordered some great salads to start and a delicious cream of asparagus also. Salmon toasts were very well presented and prepared.
Restaurant: Rakhat Tepe *** This restaurant located next to the remains of the ancient citadel of the old town of Plovdiv has a magnificent and spacious shaded terrace. The plates and portions are huge and tasty. The service a bit slow and carefree. Nice for a leisurely dinner. Bargain prices, very, very cheap.
In Bachkovo - Restaurant: Vodopada *** The restaurant is located at the foot of the road leading to the Monastery of Bachkovo. It has a nice terrace with a waterfall and a pond plagued with trouts, which are one of the main dishes in the menu. We tried the tarator (cold-based of cucumber and yogurt soup), mushrooms gratin and a huge source of refreshing melon and watermelon. Very nice and helpful service. Great prices.
In Kazanlak - Hotel: Champion Hotel, Bar & Dinner ** This hotel is very new and well maintained. Staff very nice. The owner speaks Spanish because he was running in the Spanish Cyclist Tour with a spanish team for a few years. Ideal for one night passing through to visit Valley of the Kings. The single beds are very hard and very uncomfortable to sleep.
In Burgas - Restaurant: Neptun ***** The Neptun restaurant is located on the beach of Burgas. The tables are protected with large umbrellas and stands on a wooden plank on the beach. They are well-dressed with tablecloths and glasses. The portions are huge and delicious. Excellent mussels, salmon, squid and tarator (Bulgarian cold soup specialty).
In Sozopol - Hotel: Flagman *** The Flagman located very near the Harmanite beach, the greatest beach of Sozopol, has all the comforts expected in a hotel of its class. It count with elevator, bar, dining room, swimming pool and good air conditioning in the rooms. Free Wifi, although is only good in the rooms near the stairs. All rooms have a terrace of varying size. Most of the occupants are families that come with the package of "all inclusive". Breakfast is very rich and varied but of poor quality, choosed with children in mind.
Restaurant: Urania Bistro **** The Urania Bistro located in the old town of Sozopol and with staggered tables all with great sea views and cooled by sea breezes, offers a meal prepared by a renowned chef. Specialised in fresh fish. We try the turbot very good, and the risotto with prawns. The turkey and aubergines, also very good. Desserts did not like so much, especially the dulce de leche. High prices.
Restaurant: Panorama *** This restaurant located in the Old Town of Sozopol has a terrace with great views over the Sveti Ivan Island. Offers a good variety of fresh fish. We tried the sea bass that was excellent. Correct service and prices.
In Nessebar - Hotel: Hotel Boutique St Stefan **** Excellent boutique hotel located in the heart of Nessebar. Family Suite is huge and nicely furnished. The breakfast room detracts a little the rest of the hotel. It is in a windowless basement room. The staff was charming and a great help with the luggage, for parking and getting in and out of the restricted traffic area where the hotel is located.
Restaurant: Mehana Pri Shopite *** A nice traditional Mehana in the heart of Nessebar. They have a nice patio adorned with all kinds of traditional junks and good shades. It offers traditional food with abundant fish. Normally they offer the fish of the day apart from whatever is on the menu. The traditional dish called Kavarma is great. Very affordable and very friendly atmosphere.
Restaurant: Aquamarin Bistro ** The restaurant has an excellent location with great views over the bay, but the food it not as good as we expected. Lousy service; they served us very irregularly. While few of us were eating the others must be watching. Nothing remarkable in the menu.
In Varna - Hotel: Panorama ***** The hotel has very good location opposite the beach and not far from downtown. Spacious and comfortable rooms. The triple, though with sofa bed is OK. Spectacular, varied and very good quality breakfast. Parking in the building. Free WiFi access in all rooms.
Restaurant: Pri Monahinite *** The restaurant occupies a former convent facing the Varna Sea Garden. It is a quiet and nice place. The waiters are friendly and helpful. We take local dishes that were very good, especially a dish called 'Dish of Nuns'. Nothing expensive.
Restaurant: Di Wine ***** Di Wine is the best restaurant of our entire trip through Bulgaria. The waiter-maitre treated us great and gave us good recommendations. He escorted us to visit all areas of the restaurant which is huge and is in a completely renovated old house. He showed us the very famous wine cellar. We took a risotto really spectacular, pork tenderloin and salmon as main courses. All very good and tasted. A pleasure to enjoy such a good meal at this restaurant.
In Balchik - Restaurant: Salt & Pepper *** This restaurant located next to the beach, with and excellent decoration and a refreshing sea breeze, offers a big menu with local and international dishes. We tried the garlic bread, eggplants, a salad with beans, squids, kebab, and a stew with all kind of vegetables topped with cheese very, very good. The prices were also very good.
In Shumen - Hotel: Ethno Hotel Osmarsky Houses ***** Although the location is a little remote this is an exceptional house, restored and decorated to the last detail. With traditional furniture and appliances. It has a nice garden where you can spend a good and relaxing evening.
In Veliko Tarnovo - Hotel: Sevatokrator *** The hotel's location is perfect for visiting the surrounding area. The views from the restaurant terrace and from the pool are excellent. An oasis of peace to relax after a busy day of visits. Breakfast was not very good quality. When the products were exhausted it is necessary to request for refilled.
Restaurant: Mehana Arbanasi Han *** The tavern has tables scattered around the huge garden fairly far apart providing privacy and a quiet atmosphere. It is decorated in traditional style, and the food is also like that, but not remarkable. Great portions. Worth especially to enjoy the peace of the garden.
Restaurant: Han Hadji Nikoli **** The place is beautiful. It sets in a historic building that was once an inn and now is beautifully restored. We dined on the patio with a nice atmosphere. However the food was not as good as expected. Eggplant with tomatoes were hard and sour. One of the dishes was confused and brought plenty of bread that we have not ordered and remained without touch. However the chocolate mousse dessert was unforgettible. The price is right, not expensive.
Restaurant: Bulgarka Han **** The restaturante has a huge and beautiful garden with tables protected by a small roof and flowing curtains that give a cozy romantic touch. Traditional Bulgarian dishes. The waiters do not understand English very well and did not bring us all the dishes we had ordered, but all was good. They have a yogurt dessert with berries excellent. A very strange detail, the waiters works all with white gloves .Very cheap prices.
In Hisar - Hotel: Sana Spa Hotel ***** The Spa is perfect for a couple of relaxing days. The quiet environment accompanies the serene rhythm of the hotel. Very modern and maintained water facilities. Excellent restaurant with very pleasant terrace.
