Founded in the 10th century by the vikings, Roskilde was Denmark's first capital. In AD 980 Harald I (Bluetooth) built
Zealand's first church here, making the town an importan religious centre. In the Middle Ages Roskilde had a population
of 10.000 and was one of the largest towns in northern Europe. Today is popular with visitors in summer who came to see the
historic Viking ships and the ancient cathedral.
