Ireland 2013

The Boyne Valley is a World Heritage Site and is the largest and one of the most important prehistoric megalithic sites in Europe. The Neolithic passage tombs of Newgrange, Knowth and Dowth which are older than the pyramids in Egypt and pre-date Stonhenge by 1000 years continue to attract huge numbers of visitors from all around the world. The area was also hugely important in pre-Christian times when the Hill of Tara seated the High Kings of Ireland, and where Christianity was brought by St. Patrick. The Christian infuence can be seen at the early monastic site Monasterboice. Drogheda is an excellent base for visiting all these must-see sights.
