Originally founded by the Romans, Köln is one of the oldest towns in Germany. Charlemagne raised its status to that of an arhbishopric. In the MIddle Ages the city also played a significant role in the Hanseatic League. Today is the fourth most populated city in Germany and one of the most famous for its art, history and traditions.
